In the late ’90s, the Government start working on new legislation which was designed to control materials and compounds hazardous to human health. The new law was introduced to strengthen the control and application of materials which are dangerous to the environment and people alike. COSHH 2002 became active the following year.
Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH) 2002 is working to prevent incidents such as
children toys painted with Lead colourings as it happens in the past by demanding companies who work with harmful substance to keep and maintain it a controlled environment.
In the industrial world which we are leaving, most or all items we use daily are manufactured. Not all of the components which are used in the production of these items are safe. It is important to provide a clear understanding and a safety net both for the consumer which is the end-user as well as the company employees who are dealing daily with these items.
On the practical side, companies who are working with such materials are required to employ a
Health & Safety Officer in various forms to implement the regulation’s instructions. Keeping a watching eye over the storage and use of substances and work practices. The health & Safety Officer is required to keep up with new regulations and to be able to assist and train other employees. It is recommended that his skills will be updated annually, tested and certified in order to maintain high standards.
